Music technology at Wahconah Regional High School is a course for students of any musical ability level- No experience is needed. Each student will be issued an iPad for the semester and with it we will create beats, loops and short songs using the following apps: GarageBand, Figure, MorphWiz, SoundPrism Pro, Sunrizer, and FL Studio Mobile. These apps can be used alone, or combined with other apps using AudioBus. Since each student will have an iPad, these music projects can be completed at home or in school.
In our music tech lab, students will go a little deeper into editing music, creating synths based on different wave forms, creating automation clips, using filters, envelopes, effects and other digital music making tools in the desktop version of FL Studio 11.
The goal of this course is to teach the elements of songwriting (What makes a good drum pattern? What characteristics do good bass lines have? How do I write a melody? ) and some basic music theory ( Building major and minor chords, connecting chords with good voice leading in common chord progressions, using inversions and arpeggios, etc.) using music production software as the medium.
To get started, click on the Getting Started tab above. Read, sign and return the acceptable use policy along with the permission slip and complete the registration process for all of the accounts you will need: SoundCloud, Google, Evernote and your CBRSDK12 email. The getting started tab has set by step instructions to walk you through the process, and you'll only have to do this once. The syllabus is there too along with the grading procedures.
Once you are set up, Click on the lessons tab. There you will find video tutorials on how to use each of the apps, and how to use the powerful desktop version of FL Studio. Complete projects to earn points for your final grade.
